Junior Pairs This is a relatively new competition which has been welcomed warmly by the juniors and is proving a positive for junior bowls. It was enjoyable for the spectators to watch talented bowlers showing such enthusiasm for the game. It was a highly competitive day with many close games as eighteen pairs competed for the James Elliott trophy. Eventual winners North Down came though their group on shot difference and went on from strength to strength. Oriel, North Eastern, Mid Down and North Down were the respective group winners with the Oriel v North Eastern semi-final making gripping viewing with only one shot separating the two pairs at the end. The standard of bowling in the second semi was equally as good with North Down booking their place in the final with slightly more consistent bowls. North Down edged out Oriel in the final but the real winner again was junior bowls. It is good to have so many juniors playing competitively against each other. Even though the competition has only been running a short while it has increased the interest in junior bowls. The kids love the competition and giving it a day on its own helps the tournament to have a unique atmosphere with the enthusiasm of the players being the highlight.
