Henry King of Tie Breaks

Jeremy Henry has qualified for the world singles showing real composure and the ability to produce the iportant game winning shots under pressure. It was a close call for the Portrush gent who had a busy schedule of five games if he was to complete the double of the singles and the pairs.
To go through to the QF Jeremy had to see off the challenge of Roy Battersby in a three end tie break after losing the opening set. In the quarter final he had another fright again losing the first set and having to produce the killer bowl with the last bowl of the game against young Robert Allen who lay game in the third end of the tie break only for his outdoor club colleague to deliver a precision bowl to steal the glory from a very gallant display by Robert. Then he came up against last uear's qualifier and one who is challenging Jeremy's mantle as the top bowler [outdoor & stadium] in the country. Despite getting whitewashed in the first set he again produced the goods to win the second set to take his his third game of the day into a tie break which he won in two ends.
In the final he came up against the oldest man in the field, Davy Hamilton and yet again Jeremy had to battle back from behind as Davy took the opening set. Davy had previously disposed of David Corkill who counld not reproduce the form of the previous evening and Michael Merritt who took Hamilton to the third end of the tie break. Jeremy won the second set and went on to win the tie break in two ends.

Not finished yet Jeremy went on for his fifth game of the day with his close friend Ian McClure as they did battle in the final against Chris Eadie, who had been the stand out performer in the pairs to this point, and Micheael Merritt. Jeremy with Ian's encouragement and guile had just enough left in the tank to claim victory and be a double qualifier.

Chris Eadie continued where he left off in the pairs in his opening game of singles but was halted in his second game by John Boyd who had to come back from a substantial deficit in the second set when playing Ivan Craig.

Boyd then fell in the last sixteen losing to Gary Kelly who was looking to qualify for the second successive year. Kelly now faces Patrick Burns who eliminated G McCloy.

Barry Kane had a major scare in the first game winning the last three ends of the first set to steal the set from Mairead McGuigan while Roy Battersby had to be in fine form to overcome his first hurdle of Stephen Coleman. Battersby now faces Jeremy Henry in the last sixteen after Henry eliminated his close friend Ian McClure. McClure tied the first set with his final bowl and it was only in the last three ends of the second set that Henry was able to pull ahead.

Davy Hamilton looked in command taking the first set against Noel Graham but Graham then hit back to win the second set to take the game into a tie break. The momentum then changed again back to Hamilton who went on to beat Barry Browne to set up a quarter final tie against D Corkill.

Corkill struggled in his first game to find consistency coming thru in a tie break but in the second game he found his range and peppered the jack in an excellent display to put out Simon Colvin who despite the score pushed the old maestro all the way. If Corkill finds this form in the remaining games then he could be the surprise package.
